The Process of Applying Wood Wax Oil
Preparation
Cleaning
Begin by thoroughly cleaning the wooden toy. Use a soft cloth to remove any dust or dirt. For more stubborn grime, a mild soap solution can be used, but ensure the toy is completely dry before proceeding.
Sanding
Lightly sand the toy with fine-grit sandpaper (around 220 grit) to smooth out any rough spots and open up the wood pores. This helps the wax oil penetrate better. Wipe away any sanding dust with a clean, dry cloth.
Application
First Coat
Apply a thin, even coat of wood wax oil using a soft cloth or a brush. Ensure that the oil is spread evenly over the entire surface, paying special attention to any intricate details or crevices.
Drying
Allow the first coat to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions, typically for a few hours. The drying time can vary based on the product and environmental conditions.
Buffing
Once the first coat is dry, buff the surface with a clean, soft cloth to remove any excess oil and to bring out a subtle sheen.
Second Coat
Apply a second coat in the same manner as the first. This additional coat provides extra protection and enhances the wood’s natural beauty.
Final Buffing
After the second coat has dried, give the toy a final buffing to achieve a smooth, polished finish.
Maintenance
Regular Cleaning
To maintain the toy’s appearance, regularly wipe it with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals that can strip the wax oil.
Reapplication
Depending on the toy’s usage, reapply wood wax oil every few months or as needed to keep the wood protected and looking its best.
